The auditorium was open and bright. The seat was made of hard plastic. There was only one person talking, my chemistry professor.
Students were attentive to his lesson. The professor was talking to the mass of chemistry 1 university students about chemistry and common every day products on the market.
That is when he mentioned that a well known glass cleaner was ammonium hydroxide, water and blue food coloring.
It was at that moment I knew I was going to put a product on the market.
I just did not know what it was.
My life went on and I worked in the corporate world for 12 years after graduating with a B.S. in chemistry and biology from Drury University.
In 1999 I started my first company.
Called Hubby-Do, LLC. The company did handyman work and remodeling in the Kansas City area for 11 years.
All the time I still believed I would put a product on the shelf.
At first I tried cleaning solutions.
The products worked. However they were caustic and potentially dangerous if not handled properly.
I wanted something safer.
Personally suffering from dry skin, I was using a name brand lotion. I began to use this lotion on my face.
My face burned right away.
I turned over the bottle one Sunday and went through all 25 + ingredients.
What I found shocked me. I clearly understood why my face was burning.
The majority of the ingredients could be used as machine lubricants.
My quest began.
I became obsessed, unfortunately for my family, to make body care that was safe and effective.
Efficacious would be best.
At that same time I was developing a healing crème.
I was studying wound regeneration and care.
I wrote the cascade of events of wound healing to the creation collagen on my wall.
Yes I know I am a nerd.
I continued studying and began to learn about skin cell structures called phospholipids.
There are a lot of them. I kept running into one particular that was found in skin cells.
Called phosphatidylcholine.
Well here it goes so stick with me.
This structure has a polar top with fatty legs.
It truly looks like some one walking if drawn out.
Of course I drew it right away on my office wall. Right in front of me.
I looked at phosphatidylcholine for six months.
An epiphany happened.
I realized the polar top was found in lecithin.
The fatty legs are closely related to palm oil and olive oil.
There was also one more compound that played a role as the belt on the walking person.
Glycerin.
This when things began to come together. I have been making lotions for a while.
This combination was the answer.
The Dry Skin Relief, Extra Dry Skin Crème and Working Hands Formula came first.
As I began to demo the products in stores my customers told me what to make next.
Later on the Foot Care Crème , Sensitive Skin Creme and the Vitamin Complex Face Creme were developed.
I made a promise, "To earn a tradition of purpose and excellence."
Artisan will only make body care with few ingredients with long lasting results safe and effective for the entire family.
The Artisan line has grown into 21 retail locations and are for sale on Amazon.
My quest to create body care that makes sense will never stop.
Enjoy the Artisan line of products. I have worked hard for you. I will continue to do so.
